This is my first solo show since moving to DC in 2015. It is a show of 10 or so Assemblages or Collections. Each is made up of a several individual paintings. I have included a portrait collection, various still-life collections and one landscape assemblage of 36 panels measuring 34 x 103 inches.
This page is for my 'Assemblages' Project, where I take several painting on a related theme, and assemble them into and overflowing a frame. I enjoy toying with the idea that each painting that make up these assemblages become an object, much like the object that is the subject of each painting. By overlapping and covering some of the assembled paintings, I play with the idea that the painting is no more important than the object that was painted. As an author creates mood by describing some details, and leaving others out. I try to do the same with paintings, using detail, color, form, and the object itself. Put into a group, they form a narrative. A story. It is somehow different than painting them all on one canvas. Each individual painting inside of an Assemblage varies in detail and execution. While the style is all the same some are about form and some lean toward a linear quality. This adds diversity to each piece.
I like to bring attention and importance to the common and overlooked things and places around us.
